  • Tax Gap 2024-25 estimated at 6.4%

    The tax gap estimate – the difference between what UK tax is expected to be paid and was actually paid – was 6.4% for the 2024 to 2025 tax year, provisional figures published today (23 June 2026) show.

  • Tax gap estimated at 5.3%

    The tax gap estimate – the difference between what tax is expected to be paid and actually paid – was 5.3% for the 2023 to 2024 tax year, figures published today (19 June 2025) show. While £46.8 billion was unpaid in the 2023 to 2024 tax year, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) collected £829.2 billion, representing 94.7% of all tax due.

  • Tax gap holds steady at 4.8%

    The amount of unpaid UK tax has remained at an all-time low of 4.8%, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) revealed today (22 June).
